Over the years, Pine & Partners has created history publications for dozens of clients. In that time, we've discovered several factors essential to success:
- A small, carefully selected "editorial committee" has the sole responsibility and authority to direct all aspects of the publication's development, production and distribution.
- Careful thought is given to leveraging content of the publication into other applications, including web pages, CD-ROM versions, media kits, historical plays and/or traveling displays.
- A Use and Distribution Plan for the publication is developed early. It accounts for marketing, public relations, media and investor relations, training, education and orientation, and relationship-building.
- The publication blends fact with stories (folklore) and perspectives (valued opinions).
- Content is based heavily on oral history interviews with a broad cross-section of key sources inside and outside the company, as well as archival information.
- The stories told, facts imparted and perspectives shared all combine to reinforce the core values, mission and vision of the organization.
- The publication is engaging - the text and design are readily understandable, and the entire work is "a good read" for all key stakeholders (employees, as well as external audiences).
- The publication is balanced - it maintains editorial integrity by recounting triumphs as well as tests.
- The publication is educational - it imparts valuable information to employees (veterans and newcomers alike) as well as key stakeholders.
- The publication is suited for its readers (in size and design) and its content can be transitioned into other communications "products."
- The publication is beautifully and professionally designed and makes ample use of historical visuals including photos, illustrations and memorabilia. The design allows readers to scan, sample or read the book in a more concentrated fashion.
- Production quality is high; soft and hard cover editions are created along with suitable containers for mailing. Special presentations are part of this package.
Don't forget these other important aspects:
